The Hong Kong Book Fair is expected to return this July for its 2024 edition

This year, the Hong Kong Book Fair 2024 will be held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from July 17 to 23. The city's largest book event will run alongside the Sports and Leisure Expo and World of Snacks. A single ticket allows visitors to immerse themselves in the realms of literature, sports, and food.

This year's Book Fair will host over 600 cultural activities on and off-site, including writers' workshops and book launches. The organisers hope that these activities will foster a stronger reading culture in the city. Continue reading to learn more about the annual summer event.

Tickets for the event are HKD 30 for adults and HKD 10 for children. One of this year's attractions is the Art Gallery, which will showcase a diverse range of works by recognized writers. These include Erica Li, Raymond To, Joyce Chan, Norris Wong, Chiang Hiu Mei, and Law Kar. They will display their publications, manuscripts, prizes, and movie props and will interact with guests both during and after the six-day event.

The Art Gallery will include two more exhibition areas: Featured Directors and Classic Literary Adaptations. The former will present chosen works by notable directors such as Wong Kar-wai, Ann Hui, and Stanley Kwan.

There will also be a section dedicated to promoting cultural exchange called World of Art & Culture. Visitors can browse exhibits from throughout the world, including cinema and television literature from Argentina, Colombia, the Czech Republic, France, Indonesia, South Korea, Peru, the Philippines, and more.

In keeping with this year's theme, the World of Art & Culture zone will feature an AI-powered interactive exhibit that will allow visitors to select keywords and recompose classic sequences from well-known films and shows. Some of these films include In the Mood for Love, Spirited Away, and Blade Runner. Furthermore, an interactive map will show filming sites and behind-the-scenes information.

Literary luminaries will host seminars, presentations, and workshops.

The pleasure doesn't stop with exhibitions and displays. The Book Fair will continue its Eight Seminar Series, inviting authors to present views on a variety of issues. Yuyi, the author of City of Darkness, will discuss his creative path. His book was recently transformed into the popular film Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. He will also discuss the process of adapting the plot into comics and movies.

Meanwhile, the Renowned Writers Seminar Series will include prominent Chinese-language writers from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan during the event. The lineup includes Su Tong, a pioneer of Chinese avant-garde fiction; Jin Yucheng, the author of Blossoms Shanghai; and Ban Yu, one of the Dongbei Association's three trailblazers.

This year, the English and International Reading Seminar Series will continue to reflect Hong Kong's global standing. Global authors include British scholar Christopher Cowell, Korean writer Mirinae Lee, and Thai author Narisapongse Rakwattananont will attend the event.
